The existing building covers 10 floors, including basement, and can house 227 students. The proposed development includes internal and external refurbishment to create more spacious, brighter ‘cluster’ accommodation, as well as an extension to the rear courtyard.

Highlights of the project include:

  • a mechanical and electrical (M&E) services strategy involving the central plant distributing from the basement plantroom
  • an energy system strategy which allows for some of the latest sustainable technologies such as a 'BluRoof' to improve drainage and water retention, roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) and combined heating and plumbing (CHP) from the neighbouring UCL college building
  • the project being designed by all team members in Autodesk Revit to BIM Level 2, which involved collaborative working including transfer of information in Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) format.
