The project comprised the refurbishment and extension of an existing structure on the site to better accommodate student needs. The existing Learning Resources Centre was identified as undersized for the student population and therefore required both a physical extension and an upgrade of the mechanical and electrical (M&E) services to meet current standards and future demand.
The scheme incorporated passive design measures to minimise energy consumption, complemented by the installation of high-efficiency plant.
Cooper Homewood were appointed to deliver a range of MEP design services, including low-energy lighting solutions, natural ventilation with heat recovery for deep-plan areas, and the use of radiant heat emitters as a replacement for traditional fan convector systems.
